SuperGreen Solutions Solar Panel Tax Incentives

Solar Incentives & Policies in S.C.

In 2014, South Carolina changed its solar policies and introduced the Renewables Portfolio Standard and updated their net metering rules. These new policies brought in a good number of solar rebate programs and tax credits. Usually a solar energy system costs around $20,000, but with federal and state tax credits and other rebate programs, the cost can be reduced by up to 50 percent, giving the system a greatly reduced payback time.

Net Metering Carolina Solar Quote

What is Net Metering?

One of the most talked about elements of home solar power is “net metering.” Net metering is a billing setup that allows solar energy system owners to feed excess electricity generated by their systems onto their current utility’s grid and get credited or paid for doing it.

To break it down, a solar system owner can actually earn money for the excess electricity their system produces.

In many cases, homeowners can “sell” their system’s electricity to the utility during peak usage hours and “buy” utility-provided electricity during off-peak hours, often leading to a net monetary gain for the homeowner. The whole process is monitored through the utility’s home meter that will actually run backward whenever the solar system is inputting electricity into the grid.

Solar Panel Efficiency Residential

What Affects Solar Panel Efficiency?

Shading
The amount of sunlight going to  a solar panel will determine how much of that potential energy is absorbed. The efficiency of the entire solar system can be compromised by a little bit of shade on one solar panel since it can slow the efficiency of all connected panels. The best possible site is a roof with very little to no shade at all.

Temperature
While it might seem that the hotter the area, the better the efficiency, that’s not true. Solar panels don’t necessarily like heat, which is why they are installed to allow a few inches of room between the roof and the panel – it allows for airflow that helps cool them down.

Orientation
A roof with south slope is the best for efficiency; however, others can work well. Though a direct east or west orientation will produce about 20 percent less power than a true south facing, even that can be improved with the right tilt of the panels.

Roof Tilt
The angle at which the sunlight hits the panel can drive efficiency up or down. When the sun hits the panels at a shallow angle, the light reflects away, which means the panels cannot collect as much as they would if facing the sun directly. Some roofs have a pitch that means the sun never quite hits the panels directly; this can be corrected by installing the panels in such a way that compensates for the tilt of the roof. This requires a strong site survey and excellent design to achieve maximum panel efficiency.

SuperGreen Solutions Energy Savings

Energy Efficiency—For the Summer

Summer is the perfect time of year to improve the safety and energy efficiency of your home. By adding a few easy tasks to your annual summer to-do list, you can make significant improvements to the overall energy efficiency of your homes and appliances.

Dreading the summer heat that comes through your windows?
-Whether you invest in Indow window inserts or insulated, thermal-backed drapes, you will thank yourself when summer comes. They’ll keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Ever thought of installing a Solar Attic Fan?
-An attic ventilating system draws cool air up through the house and can provide the same level of comfort as an air conditioner at a much lower cost. Pump in cool air during summer evenings then seal your home during the day.
-Solar attic fans do not require an electrician to install and come with great solar tax incentives.

Am I operating my thermostat for maximum energy savings?
-The smaller the difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures, the lower your overall cooling bill will be, so set your thermostat accordingly.
-A Wifi-enabled thermostat, such as one from Lockstate Connect, can make it easy to set back your temperature even when you are not at home.

Do you have solar panels on your roof?
– Summer is the best season in terms of solar generation. This is thanks to longer average days, which means more sunlight for your panels to turn into free electricity.
-Spring and Summer are the perfect times of year to get up there and clean your solar system. Solar panels should be cleaned at least once a year to help maintain their output potential.

Thinking about purchasing new appliances?
-Always look for the ENERGY STAR® label. These are more energy efficiency and can help reduce your energy costs.

Ceiling Fans:
-If you use air conditioning, a ceiling fan will allow you to raise the thermostat setting about 4°F with no reduction in comfort. Turn off ceiling fans when you leave the room. Remember that fans cool people, not rooms, by creating a wind chill effect.

United Nations Publishes SuperGreen Solutions Partnership Project

SuperGreen Solutions® (SGS), the world’s leading provider of sustainability advisory services and renewable energy solutions for customers across the globe, is the exclusive administrator of the Green Compass Sustainability Award program. With initial support from universities such as Arizona State University, Palm Beach Atlantic University and the University of Southern Indiana, SuperGreen Solutions is developing a sustainability project partnership to identify and remove the barriers preventing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from becoming certified sustainable businesses.

The United Nations has published the project on its business.un.org site.

Effort-targeted regions include Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Middle East and Oceania. The partnership also pursues involvement from state and city governments seeking improved sustainability for their communities; universities and businesses.

This partnership’s primary objective is to collaborate with other global entities to expand the principles of sustainable business practices to businesses classified as SMEs. In fact, sustainable business practices are being pursued by the largest and most profitable companies in the world – but are not yet being as aggressively implemented by the majority of the 99% of businesses classified as SMEs. This partnership presents an opportunity to dramatically grow sustainability.

“This project would pool resources from entities across the globe, answering the question ‘How do we define and eliminate barriers in order to accelerate global SME adoption of sustainability?’. We created this project without commercial intent to truly isolate and eliminate the roadblocks standing in the way of every business in the world pursuing sustainable business operations,” Michael Bernstein, operations manager of SuperGreen Solutions and creator of the published project, explains.

“We approach this project with the assumption that most SMEs spend more time driving revenues than lowering costs (their brand is not as established, their sales force not as experienced, their advertising not as robust, their costs not as large – as those of larger entities). We believe the SME tilt to revenue, in combination with lower overhead, impacts their concern for cost reduction. Not that they are disinterested in cost savings; just more sales and revenues minded. We believe SMEs can be ‘won over’ by presenting sustainability as a revenue-side benefit, not just a cost-side benefit. We believe this will help accelerate the advancement of sustainability to SMEs,” says David Goodman, president of SuperGreen Solutions.

Carolina Solar Quote Renewable Energy Vs. Fossil Fuels

Renewables and Forecast to be Cheaper than Fossil Fuel in 2020: What is the Future of Clean Energy?

Fossil fuels (e.g., coal, petroleum, and natural gas) have been the main source of energy for generations. Because they are the result of millions of years’ worth of plant and animal decomposition, they are not renewable. On top of the possibility of running out, they have increasingly negative effects on the environment. The largest emitter of greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, fossil fuels heavily pollute the air and its surroundings. The future depends on the transition toward renewable, clean energy.

Fossil Fuel Alternatives

As solar panels and electric vehicles become more economical, projections show that the demand for fossil fuels is set to fall by 2020. In fact, affordable electric vehicles could cut the need for oil by two million barrels a day by 2025. As the desire for more environmentally conscious alternatives rose, so did the need for technological advancements in the clean energy industry.

The cost for solar panels, for example, has decreased by 85% in seven years, and battery costs have dropped by 73% in the same time. This is occurring simultaneously with the 60% increase in demand for electric vehicles per year. With the ability to affordably refuel a vehicle at a charging station, we can take a legitimate step toward combating rising global temperatures.

Global Demand for Smart Energy

Projections show that 29% of the global power could be sustainably managed by solar panels by the year 2050. This could result in the total phasing out of coal altogether. Another study showed that the total contribution from all renewables to global power could reach 11% sooner, by 2040.

Clean energy is becoming that much more innovative, and as a result, that much more accessible. Because of this, businesses can do their part by assessing their current energy usage and determining how they can work toward greater sustainability. SuperGreen Solutions can conduct an energy audit and can help your business take the necessary steps toward cleaner, smarter energy practices.
