Solar is getting cheaper
Every year panels are becoming more and more efficient, decreasing the average system size, and driving the total cost down. They are also becoming cheaper to mass produce and readily available at a consumer level.
Don’t forget the tax credits!!!
The US federal government offers a tax credit to both home and business owners who install solar power. A tax credit worth 30% of the total system cost and installation is available (more about Federal Solar Tax Credit here). If the federal tax credit exceeds tax liability, the excess amount may be carried forward to the succeeding taxable year for up to 6 years if needed.
The state of South Carolina offers an additional tax credit for home and business owners who go solar. The South Carolina solar tax credit is worth 25% of the total cost including installation. The maximum amount of the SC state tax credit you can take yearly is $3,500, or 50% of taxpayer’s tax liability for that taxable year, whichever is less. This credit can expire anytime but customers who get installed will be grandfathered in. (more about SC Solar Tax Credit here).
With the help of the federal and state tax credits, your solar system is very affordable.
